What exactly is a clone ?

A "Clone" is simply any computer NOT manufactured by a huge company. Clone PC's are typically custom built for each individual person's computing requirements. In other words,  a clone PC can be built to accommodate a certain budget, computing style, or environment. Your neighbor may only use his PC for email, but you need yours to run an in home business. Still another person might need a gaming PC. In every instance, a clone can fit the requirements perfectly.  Clones can also be made from "Brand Name" components. That is,  you can specify a Diamond Multimedia video card, 3Com Network card, and a Maxtor hard drive.

Another advantage that a clone has is the ease of upgrading.  The key to upgrading any PC is the motherboard. This is the single most important piece of equipment in any PC. It is the part that everything else plugs into. It also shapes the future of your PC buying for the next few years.
Name brand PC's are engineered to be "cost effective". They are designed and manufactured with all or most of the critical components on the motherboard. When you decide to upgrade a particular item in the PC, most times you find out that you can't because the component is built into the motherboard. This is why most brand name computer companies want you to "trade in" or lease a computer from them. They know that you won't be able to upgrade it to an acceptable level.
A Clone gives you the ability to decide what you are going to upgrade and allows you to change to almost any new product that comes out. For instance, if you found out a year after you bought your clone, you really wanted to start playing games, you could replace your  8mb video card with a new 32mb Diamond Viper 770. On a brand name PC, you would not have that option because the video components are on the motherboard.  So why not just buy another motherboard? Two reasons. One: Cost. Two: most name brand companies will NOT sell you a motherboard for you older system. Starting to see a trend?

Clones have more flexibility when a component fails. Every PC manufacturer has hardware failures from time to time. When a failure occurs, if the component is on the motherboard, guess what? Right! Replace the whole motherboard. If a failure occurs in a clone, the component is the only thing being replaced.

Lastly, a clone can be serviced anywhere across the country at any computer store or in home service company such as ourselves. If a name brand computer needs repair, you must contact that manufacturer for parts. A PC company may be an authorized dealer or repair center for that company, but they still have to pay the manufacturers prices for the part. (which are usually quite a bit higher.)
